Pre-Operational Setup
- Park forklift on level surface, engage parking brake, and power off engine
- Allow diesel engine to cool and ensure safe working space is available
- Gather checklist, inspection tools, and reference previous day's logs
Fluid System Inspection
- Check engine oil level and inspect dipstick for discoloration or contamination
- Verify hydraulic and brake fluid levels; inspect reservoirs and lines for leaks
- Confirm coolant level is within range and radiator system has no blockages
- Check diesel fuel level and ensure cap is sealed tightly
Hydraulic & Mast Assembly Check
- Inspect hydraulic hoses and cylinders for wear, cracks, or leaks
- Operate lift, tilt, and side-shift functions under no-load for responsiveness
- Verify fork alignment, backrest integrity, and chain condition
Safety Systems Verification
- Test seatbelt, horn, lights, alarms, and visual indicators
- Check overhead guard, fire extinguisher, and load capacity plate readability
- Inspect brakes and steering for responsiveness under idle movement
Start-Up and Functional Testing
- Start diesel engine and observe for smoke, vibration, or abnormal sounds
- Warm engine to operating temperature and monitor gauges for anomalies
- Test forward/reverse travel and controls under low-speed movement
Final Documentation
- Record all checklist results with pass/fail status
- Note any abnormalities and alert supervisor if immediate action is needed
- Sign and file inspection record per OSHA retention policy
